The Punchbowl - Llanfoist
Long term intentions
The whole of the Punchbowl will continue to develop as a wood pasture of predominantly native broadleaved species, with a significant component of beech grown from site-sourced seed within sub-compartments 1a, 1c, 1d, 1e, and 1f. Sub-compartment 1b is predominantly grassland within the woodland pasture system, providing grazing on site, reducing the grazing pressure on the wood pasture and providing a sufficient area to allow the site grazing to be commercially let.
Within the site, veteran pollards continue to be an important feature and potential replacements for the large and aged original pollards will have been established by pollarding younger trees within the woodland. The beech trees along the sunken lane will continue to be a feature and replacements planted where gaps had developed.
Public access is a promoted on site, and fishing on site is accommodated only if this does not reduce the enjoyment of the site by other visitors.
