Long term intentions

To provide access for walkers at a level appropriate to usage by maintaining a single path through the site, and entrances at each end. Current usage is estimated to be low to medium from local walkers. Corporate objective: increasing public enjoyment.

To maintain a high forest woodland of oak, beech and exotic conifers/broadleaves by retaining the existing canopy as long as the trees remain safe, whilst taking the opportunity to diversify the age structure by enrichment planting where gaps in the canopy occur. It is envisaged that the woodland would retain its existing widely spaced canopy to maintain the pinetum/arboretum feel. Unusual species of Rhododendron and azaleas (which are less invasive than rhododendron ponticum) will be retained in the north east sector where it currently occurs, but rhododendron ponticum to be removed if and where it occurs. Rhododendron will be controlled in the north east section where there are significant gaps in the canopy to allow for the introduction of new planted trees. Regeneration of rhododendron, laurel and azaleas to be removed elsewhere in the wood. Corporate objective: woodland establishment, increasing public enjoyment, increasing biodiversity
