Park Wood - Talgarth
Long term intentions
Ancient woodland features will have been enhanced throughout the site through a programme of gradual restoration. Dense conifers will have been reduced by gradual thinning and a predominantly native canopy restored, taking care to open up gradually around the existing over-storey oak. Some conifers and non-native broadleaves such as beech will have been retained however, contributing to visual and biological diversity. Thinning will have also increased the amount of light reaching the woodland floor, thereby promoting and encouraging natural regeneration and the development of native ground flora, such as bluebells. The areas of new native planting will have developed towards a mature broadleaved canopy. The permissive and public footpaths within the site will have been maintained to ensure good conditions for public access and recreation. Carefully-planned harvesting will have ensured that there is minimal damage to rides and that the wood remains an attractive feature in the landscape.
