Marden Park - Woldingham
Long term intentions
The Woodland Trust's corporate objectives of no further loss of ancient woodland, improving biodiversity and enhancing the public's enjoyment of woodland can all be met in Marden Park and Great Church Wood. The long-term intentions which help to achieve these objectives are:
No further loss of ancient woodland
The ancient woodland at Marden Park Woods will be managed sympathetically for wildlife and protected in perpetuity, thereby preventing it from loss.
Improving biodiversity
- Maintain diversity of native tree species and structure throughout the woodlands, together with a diverse understorey and ground flora.
- Maintain and enhance the chalk grassland and open space element of the woodlands, ensuring there is an intimate mosiac of scrub within the habitat.
- Continue to assess the impacts of deer and grey squirrels on woodland biodiversity at Marden Park Woods.
- Ensure a continuity of the deadwood habitat. This being present in the ancient beech trees and in naturally fallen and standing dead timber
Enhancing the public's enjoyment of woodland
- Maintain the extensive network of informal paths, bridleways, car parking areas, information boards and signage to a high standard with regard to the Category A access designation.
