Lon y Coed - Felindre
Long term intentions
In fifty years time Lôn y Coed will be a diverse mixed native woodland with open marshy areas around a pond and a scattering of very large old trees in the hedge boundaries. The deer fence will have been removed and the hazel hedge avenue will provide an unusual natural tunnel feature through the site, including the additional length planted in 2000. Buzzards, red kites and ravens will be common sights for visitors and the occasional deer will also be seen but not in numbers that cause too much damage to the trees. The pond will be busy with frogs, toads and insect life. The unplanted areas will be partly colonised by willow and shrubs but the wettest areas will remain open with reeds and rushes dominating. The area immediately around the entrance will be open and not overgrown with shrubs. The site will provide an extension of native woodland habitat to the restored Forestry Commission Ancient Woodland site next door.
A circular walk around the site will be maintained in a good condition for walkers and the links to other paths beyond the site will be kept open so that visitors can reach the site from both ends.
