King's Cliffe Millennium Wood - King's Cliffe, Oundle
Long term intentions
Our intention is to create a native broadleaved (NVC Class W8) woodland with groves of Scots pine. It will remain fully accessible for people to enjoy for informal recreation throughout.
This will be achieved through the management of the planted trees to ensure the woodland creation areas become fully stocked, encouraging them to grow quickly to achieve full establishment. Management will then be much less intensive, allowing the trees to grow to maturity with only limited intervention. Ride side thinning and scalloping are likely actions, the deer / rabbit fence remaining for as long as it remains efficient. The tall hedge forming the eastern boundary will ideally be cut and laid c 2010. It may require occasional side trimming as it grows, prior to this.
Paths will be regularly cut up to three times per year and maintained so as to allow for easy access. Use of the site will be monitored and provisions for informal recreation reviewed accordingly. Public safety will be assessed regularly and tree safety inspections made once the trees are mature. Paths and boundaries are areas for review, based on the level of use.
