Long term intentions

The restoration of the woodland as a predominantly oak high forest will continue by the gradual removal of remaining conifers and the promotion of the restocked and naturally regenerating native trees. Strategies in the longer term for managing the native woodland will tend to minimal intervention, but where restructuring may be necessary, any felling will be small scale (thinning / small group felling). Control of Rhododendron ponticum will continue with a view to eradication. The existing paths and tracks will be maintained, and improved as opportunities arise. As part of the site's visual and historical value, built features of ornamental interest (pond, seats) will be retained as far as practicable, and a selection of specimen exotic trees will be maintained.
