Brockweir - Brockweir, Wye Valley
Long term intentions
The main objective at this site is to encourage the development of a small area of broadleaved woodland predominantly of native species and attaining a semi-natural structure in the long-term.
It is anticipated that little management will be required to fulfil this objective other than occasional light thinning to increase the light levels reaching the shrub and ground layers and to allow crown development in retained trees. The planted small leaved lime is of unknown origin and will be gradually removed. In the long-term, gaps are likely to be created naturally by falling trees and natural regeneration will be sufficient to ensure the continuation of woodland at the site.
The volume of deadwood will increase through retention of fallen and standing deadwood (where safe).
The entrance and mown path will be maintained to allow public access through the copse and the roadside hedge will be maintained and managed to provide an attractive road frontage.
