Our woods in focus
Adcombe Wood & Woodram Copse - Blagdon

Long term intentions

The intention is to manage the wood as mixed high forest with a diversity of age and structure. As the wood is already structurally and species diverse it is envisaged that this will be achieved with minimum intervention. This will also help achieve an appearance of continuous canopy desirable due to the landscape importance of the site. Glades and rides will be maintained providing diversity of habitat, some rideside coppicing will be undertaken to maintain the ride edge habitat. This will also benefit management and public access.

The meadow, now that conifers have been removed, is returning to rough grassland this will be managed by cutting or grazing, with small clumps of trees and patches of scrub adding to the overall diversity. The main glade within the wood will be kept clear of scrub and regeneration to maintain the open grassland habitat conditions suitable for the early gentian.

The current low level of public use will be encouraged and visitor facilities maintained. Tree safety inspections and removal of litter and fly tipping will help increase public enjoyment.
