 Adams Wood - Frieth

Long term intentions

Due to its importance as a plantation on ancient woodland site (PAWS), the aim will be to gradually remove the majority of the larch on the site and restore it to a predominantly broadleaved woodland. From the PAWS survey (2007), the larch will be selectively felled around remnant features, in particular patches of native ground flora and halo thinned around broadleaf trees. Some trees could be felled to waste where it would be impractical to extract the timber, as well as being a way to increase the amount of dead wood. Damage to any woodland archaeology will be avoided by taping these off before operations commence. Timber extraction operations will be carried out when the ground conditions are dry enough and outside of the ground flora flowering times. The final tree species composition is likely to be ash with cherry, hornbeam and beech.

All paths through the woodland will be kept open for visitors and contact will be maintained with the local voluntary wardens.
